[Public Domain Day]

By “technical things to keep in mind” I’m assuming it has something to do with only the original version of Mickey Mouse featured in Steamboat Willie (1928) is now in the Public Domain. The more modern and well known depiction of Mickey Mouse from Fantasia (1940) is still protected under copyright until 2033 I think. But I don’t think Disney will ever fully let go of the Mickey Mouse character entirely.

On a side note the boy next to the weird kid looks kinda like Lincoln Loud while the girl in front of the weird kid looks like Ronnie Anne Santiago. Everyone here seems to have their own unique style.

Fortunately it’s only the Steamboat Willie (1928) version of Mickey Mouse that is now in the public domain. As for his more updated and modern version as seen in Fantasia (1940) onwards has been renewed under copyright until at least 2033 I believe. I don’t think Disney would let go of the Mickey Mouse character entirely. On a side note Steamboat Bloo sounds like a unique idea.

Actually Mickey Mouse isn’t entirely let go by Disney. The original version of him that first appeared in “Steamboat Willie” (1928) is now in the Public Domain. But the more modernized and well known depiction of him from Fantasia (1940) is still under copyright protection until its renewal in 2033. I’m pretty sure they won’t let go of Mickey Mouse entirely.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but it is in part due to because trademark laws are different from copyright if I’m not mistaken?

Its a similar situation with Bosko not being let go by WB entirely. BUT, some of those shorts are public domain as well. At the very least people can start using the shorts in remix culture to that respect.
