I Need Advice

Posted by SolidSnakeOnAPlane - July 25th, 2022

I’m a full grown man who still doesn’t have a job or a drivers license due to over protective parents who are afraid of me growing up. But I have a real interest in becoming a low budget indie film director. (Particularly B-movie horror films). I have a video camera at my parents house but I only have two people, me and my twin brother who’s very rude, immature and lazy. Not to mention little to no friends. I can’t make a movie with only two people. How can I get me a cast and crew? I have absolutely no desire to go to film school because that’s just expensive and a waste of time. Should I just put up random flyers around my neighborhood saying “Looking for people with little to no acting or film experience who are willing to work for little to no pay and would like to help me make a short indie film to help me start a film career.” Lots of film directors didn’t go to film school and I think gathering a bunch of random people for a cast and shooting a low budget short film even if it’s total garbage is a good start. Maybe get some people to bring or rent supplies I would need? Any suggestions?

Does anyone have any suggestions on me starting a career as a low budget indie film director? Please comment if you have any info.

@SolidSnakeOnAPlane You can start practicing by taking short video clips both indoors and outdoors using different types of camera angles.

Thank you for your suggestion.

@SolidSnakeOnAPlane Your welcome,man!If you have any more questions,please feel free to ask.

Any advice on getting random people with little to no acting or film experience and are willing to work for little to no pay? And getting people to bring or rent supplies I need? I thought about putting flyers around my neighborhood. I’m interested in making low budget B-movie horror films but my first attempt doesn’t necessarily have to be horror. It doesn’t even need to be over an hour long.

@SolidSnakeOnAPlane Hmm,how about your neighbours?

I’ve considered that, yes.

Actually it is possible to make a movie with two people. The only thing you'd need is a set to film on and a story to tell.

What kind of plot would you suggest?

@SolidSnakeOnAPlane No luck,huh?

Its not that it’s just I haven’t actually tried it yet.

@SolidSnakeOnAPlane could be anything really. But some of the best ways of doing a two person show would be to have them do something together while they get the story across. Like playing games (Cards, Chess, etc.), talking on an elevator or in a vehicle or other things.

Thanks for the advice.

hm... complicated situation... i had a similar problem, i wanted to have my own animated series, but no one i know was willing to help me. So i had 2 options: give up or make it happen, no money to afford fancy equipment like drawing tablet, had to draw with a mouse, no good microphone nor voice actor, had to voice every character myself. I don't know about movies, i think the AVGN started doing everything by himself too

@SolidSnakeOnAPlane Oh.Good luck!

Thanks

@SolidSnakeOnAPlane np. I have lots of examples on my page. Best of luck!
